Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) - Welds - Refresher eLearning Package

For technicians who are already certified, but would benefit from a reminder of the fundamentals of PAUT, we are introducing a refresher eLearning package. This course is an excellent way to remind yourself of the underlying principles and skills required to conduct this type of inspection.

Refresher courses are available for 14 days consecutive access from the date of activation. During that time they can be completed entirely at your own pace, with the option to repeat any sections as needed.

The Refresher eLearning Package is divided in three modules:

  •  Module 1: Self-evaluation Test

  •  Module 2: Theory

  •  Module 3: Exercises

Module 1: Self-evaluation Test

  • 40-question test

  • Link to an explanatory video for each question

  • Grade obtained

Module 2: Theory

  • Introduction to phasing, steering, focusing

  • Pulser/receivers, digitizers, sub-sampling, filters, gain, multiplexing

  • Multi-element probes

  • Optimal wedge height calculation

  • Scanner components, encoder

  • PAUT A-Scan, L-Scan, S-Scan

  • C-Scan depth, C-Scan from S-Scan

  • Cursors, gates, A-Scan extractor, weld centerline, skip lines

  • Producing PAUT, PAUT wave front, PAUT beam

  • Steering, shear and longitudinal waves

  • Focused and unfocused beams, active focusing, passive focusing

  • Signal compression, angular resolution, scan resolution, filtering

  • Set-up, element step, angular range and resolution, focal distance

  • Number of samples, voltage, gain, PRF

  • Velocity calibration, 0-degree, angled

  • Wedge delay calibration, 0-degree, angled

  • TCG calibration, 0-degree, angled

  • Encoder calibration

  • Probe positioning, zero datum, scanning direction

  • Sizing indication 0-degree, depth, width, length

  • Sizing indication angled beam, depth, height, length

Module 3: Interactive Exercises

  • Lamination check exercises, set-up, calibration, scanning, data analysis

  • Corrosion mapping exercises, set-up, calibration, scanning, data analysis

  • Weld testing exercises, set-up, calibration, scanning, data analysis
